W07 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Final Blog If I had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what I learned from this course it would be to dream big, believe in yourself, take the risk of entrepreneurship, and be a lifelong learner. Dreaming big is the only way we can find success in the entrepreneurial world. If you limit your dreams to the status quo nothing will come of it and you won’t have a reason to be an entrepreneur. Dreaming big opens up our minds to new ideas we would never think of otherwise. Next, you must believe in yourself. No matter how ordinary you think you are, you are capable of anything. You have the support of a Heavenly Father who sees your true potential and knows who you can become. Next, even with all the risks involved in entrepreneurship, the rewards far outweigh the risks. Have courage and determination and you will find success. Lifelong learning is not only a commandment but the best habit you can ever have. The more you learn the ...

W07 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal What stood out to me the most in this week’s study was the talk given by Thomas S Monson “An Attitude of Gratitude”. First and foremost, it is important to have gratitude to God. He has given us everything we have including life. We should always express gratitude to God even when times are tough. Next, we should give gratitude to our parents. Our earthly parents have played a similar role in raising and giving us everything in our youth. They play a pivotal role in our development and well-being. I know I wouldn’t be who I am today without my parents. Next, we should give gratitude to our teachers. Teachers teach us how to learn. I know I have had many great teachers in my life. One in particular was my young men’s president. He was pivotal in developing my testimony and being prepared to serve a mission. He not only taught us, but he cared deeply for us. We knew he always had our back and wanted what was best for us. Next...

W06 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Virtue and integrity are so vital in an economy because it is important to take care of everyone involved. We are shifting toward a time when corporations are no longer looking after their shareholders or employees but are trying to seek personal financial gain. When we base business on personal financial gain, we lose the whole purpose of a business which is to fill a need in the world. Charles Handy explains that a business is not there to make a profit but to do something better with it. If we listen to his advice on this important topic, we can have a successful economy. I think the two solutions I agree with that Handy has is to pay dividends to those who are not only contributing money but also skill and we should measure success in terms of outcomes for others as well as for ourselves. I know how important funding is for a successful business, but I also know it is more important to have talented people running the business as well. I like...

W05 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal This week was awesome regarding what I learned. I had an incredible experience interviewing a friend of mine and learning about how he runs his Thai restaurant. I learned very great lessons from this and also gained a mentor in the process. Joel taught me the importance of creativity in a business. Not just in design, but in finances and how a business is run. He taught me that there are many ups and downs to owning a restaurant but overall, it is a rewarding experience. He taught me that it is important to build good relationships, having people that are available to help you with your business is invaluable. Ultimately, talking with Joel gave me confidence that starting a business is not only possible but can be a successful experience if you are out in the work. I’m excited for my entrepreneurial journey to start. I am looking forward to learning more about restaurants and how to run a successful business. Joel has offered to help me out and m...

W04 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal I think the habit that is most meaningful to me is the last one “Sharpen the Saw". I like all the other habits but this one seems to be the most prevalent in my life right now. I am definitely in the thick of it with this habit. I know it should be continually done, but I feel like this time in my life I have been sharpening my saw a lot more. I am going through school trying to complete my bachelor’s degree. I am constantly learning new skills and trades at work. I am attending therapy to help out emotionally. I am working hard to be more consistent spiritually by attending the temple more often and attending church more purposefully. I think the only thing that I am not sharpening as much as I should be is my physical health. I am having a hard time finding the time for this one. I like this habit because I am big into bettering myself and finding ways to improve in all of these categories. I think it is important to learn to be a lifetim...

W03 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Key Takeaways from “A Hero’s Journey” I enjoyed watching the video “A Heroes Journey”. There were a lot of things that stood out to me. It is important to believe that everyone has a special mission on earth. This mission will succeed beyond your wildest dreams if you have the faith and courage to find your entrepreneurial calling. This is sometimes hard for me to believe as I go through my day-to-day feeling inadequate and mediocre. I know I haven’t found my calling yet, but I know that it is out there. I need to take the steps necessary to figure out what it is and pursue it with everything I have. I have always believed God has great plans for my life but I have had a hard time figuring out what it is. The next thing that stood out to me was when he said “The hero’s journey is all about you, but it’s not about you at all.” I never thought that my calling had nothing to do with me. I loved the way they explained that your entrepreneu...

W02 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal This week was full of learning and growth. I have learned a lot about myself and who I want to become. I loved learning from Elder Lynn G Robbins about the grades for making a living and a life. Grade A's primary motivation is to love God and fellow men. That is where we should be when making a living and a life. We never want our primary motivation to fall to money, the love of money, or filthy lucre. If we put God and others first Heavenly Father will take care of us. My favorite part of this week's study was learning about the three circles created by Jim Collins. He taught that to be successful we need to find what we are good at, born to do, and what people will pay us to do. Most people, (including myself) have a hard time finding what we are born to do. He gave great advice to start a journal about yourself of when you are happiest or are in a flow state. When you are thriving in a situation it will give you the information need...
