W03 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal
Key Takeaways from “A Hero’s Journey”
I enjoyed watching the video “A Heroes Journey”. There were a lot of things that stood out to me. It is important to believe that everyone has a special mission on earth. This mission will succeed beyond your wildest dreams if you have the faith and courage to find your entrepreneurial calling. This is sometimes hard for me to believe as I go through my day-to-day feeling inadequate and mediocre. I know I haven’t found my calling yet, but I know that it is out there. I need to take the steps necessary to figure out what it is and pursue it with everything I have. I have always believed God has great plans for my life but I have had a hard time figuring out what it is.
The next thing that stood out to me was when he said “The hero’s journey is all about you, but it’s not about you at all.” I never thought that my calling had nothing to do with me. I loved the way they explained that your entrepreneurial calling is to help others not yourself. You need to find a need in the world and fill it. Your calling should fill that hole, and give you opportunities to help others. We must live every moment of our life like it matters. Our contributions and our lives matter not only to us but to God and the people we will help. I can ponder these questions to help me align with these principles. What burning need is in the world? What need calls out to my heart? Where is there injustice or opportunity that I can’t resist? What problem was I put on earth to solve?
At Acton, they make three promises to their students. They will learn to learn, learn to make money, and learn to live a life of meaning. Most people don’t have problems with the first two, they tend to struggle with living a life of meaning. The keys to living a life of meaning are finding great role models and asking these important questions. “Have I contributed something meaningful? Am I a good person? Who did I love and who loved me? I think I can start asking myself these questions every day to be able to answer them proudly at the end of my life. If I focus on these questions, they will help me have purpose and meaning in life. I know I can find great role models throughout my life who can help me with these questions and on my “hero’s journey.”
One thing I need to work on now is finding out what my God-given talents are. I can start by recognizing when I am in a “flow” state or when I lose track of time doing something. If I can find that and find out what brings me the most joy in life, I will be able to fulfill my calling.
The last thing that stood out to me is the importance of being thankful. I wondered what this had to do with success or finding your calling in life. Gratitude is the only way we can recognize when we are successful. We could have all the money and success in the world but if we don’t take the time to thank God for it, it will mean nothing. When we are successful, we need to remember who helped us along the way to get to that point. God, being number one, and the other mentors and role models in your life.
This is not an easy path to follow. It is worth it. I know that I can find the faith to start my “Hero’s Journey” and fulfill my life calling.
